Applesauce

Everyone in our house LOVES applesauce, but what kids doesn't???  You can always throw in some pears or cranberries or any other flavors you would like to add.  I have heard it freezes so I am going to try and freeze about 2 cups and find out.  This recipe made about 6 cups of applesauce and I am sure it will be gobbled up in no time.

Applesauce
15 - apples peeled, cored, and chopped
1/2 cup water or apple juice for a richer taste
1 cup brown sugar
1-1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice (you can make this with 1/4 tsp allspice, 1/2 tsp nutmeg, 1/2 tsp ginger, and 1-1/2 tsp cinnamon.  This yield more than needed so store the extra in an airtight container)
1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • Combine all ingredients in the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours

  • Once done take off lid and allow to cool slightly.  At this time you can either mash them with a potato masher, leave them alone for a super chunky applesauce, or do like I do and stick it in the blend until it has the consistency you like.  Another tip leave a bit of the liquid in the bottom of the slow cooker and allow the yummy smelling spices to fill your home for a bit :)
